Eso sí provoca un silencio curioso.
A) “Not just individually. Institutionally.”
El CMC entrecierra ligeramente los ojos.
A) “Before, they were kind of socially isolated.”
Hace un pequeño gesto con la mano.
A) “Patriotic friend groups. Mostly internal cohesion.”
Luego niega con la cabeza.
A) “That changed.”
El CSAF pregunta inmediatamente:

Alex responde casi sin pensar.
A) “Because they stayed serious while everything else became performative.”
La frase cae con muchísima fuerza en la sala.

El CNO deja escapar una pequeña exhalación por la nariz.

A) “Yes, sir.”
Alex asiente inmediatamente.
A) “A lot of students now see military service as one of the few places where competence still visibly matters.”
Eso genera otro silencio incómodo.
Porque nadie en la sala puede ignorar el subtexto implícito sobre el resto del aparato federal.
Y entonces tú intervienes con absoluta calma.
Y) “To be fair…”
La sala vuelve la vista hacia ti.
Y) “I did submit a report after my conversation with Hayes.”
El Chairman gira ligeramente la cabeza.
Y) “I flagged emerging shifts in elite university perception of ROTC pipelines, institutional trust transfer toward military structures and increasing youth admiration for competence-based federal organizations.”
El CNO arquea apenas una ceja.
CNO) “…You buried the lead, Nacho.”
Tú niegas suavemente.
Y) “No, sir.”
Miras un momento hacia Alex.
Y) “I lacked the human context.”
El silencio que sigue es muy distinto al de antes.
Mucho más reflexivo.
Porque todos entienden ahora lo que acaba de ocurrir realmente:
El sistema federal sí había recibido señales.
Simplemente nadie había unido todavía todas las piezas culturales, políticas y generacionales en un único marco coherente.
Hasta esta mañana.

Traga saliva una vez.

Mira un instante hacia ti.
A) “Nacho and I?”
Y entonces ocurre algo casi surrealista.
El CNO se ríe primero.
No una carcajada enorme.
Una risa breve, cansada y completamente humana.
Luego el CMC.
Después el CSAF.
Incluso el Chairman termina exhalando una sonrisa resignada mientras niega lentamente con la cabeza.
CJCS) “No, Specialist.”
Alex parpadea.
CJCS) “You are very much not under arrest.”
El Chairman se inclina ligeramente hacia delante.
CJCS) “You just provided one of the most important generational intelligence briefings this building has heard in years.”
Alex abre un poco los ojos.
A) “…Oh.”
El CNO sigue todavía medio riéndose mientras se pasa una mano por la cara.
CNO) “Christ, she really thought we were about to disappear her.”
A) “Sir, respectfully, I got emergency TS/SCI clearance, flew in a Black Hawk, delayed Reagan traffic and got put under something called Umbra classification before breakfast.”
Eso provoca ahora sí varias risas reales alrededor de la mesa.
Incluso Hale aparta la mirada intentando ocultar una sonrisa.
A) “From my perspective this has had extremely ‘federal abduction’ energy.”
El CMC directamente apoya la cabeza un segundo sobre la mano riéndose por lo bajo.
CMC) “Fair assessment.”
Tú niegas ligeramente con una sonrisa cansada.
Y) “Alex, if we arrested everyone who criticized the federal government…”
Miras alrededor del Tank.
Y) “…we’d have to arrest half the Pentagon before lunch.”
Eso hace que incluso el Chairman sonría brevemente.
Alex exhala finalmente, relajándose por primera vez desde que entró en la sala.
A) “…Okay that actually helps a lot.”
El Chairman recupera poco a poco el tono serio, aunque la atmósfera ya es distinta.
Mucho más humana.
CJCS) “Specialist.”
Alex vuelve a ponerse recta automáticamente.

La frase cae con bastante peso.

Ahora sí vuelve el tono estratégico.
CJCS) “…is that we appear to have entirely underestimated the degree of political self-organization already occurring beneath the visible layer of the Republic.”
Alex asiente lentamente.
A) “Yes, sir.”
Y entonces Hale murmura desde el fondo de la sala, ya con el café completamente olvidado:

El Chairman permanece completamente callado escuchando.

Varias expresiones cambian inmediatamente.

Hace un pequeño gesto con la mano.

Ahora sí sonríe apenas.

El CNO arquea una ceja.

Alex asiente sin dudar.

El CSAF interviene inmediatamente.

A) “Yes, ma’am.”
Alex asiente.
A) “Because younger political ecosystems increasingly interpret excessive formality as artificial hierarchy maintenance.”
Eso sí hace que varios miembros del JCS intercambien miradas rápidas.
A) “It’ll probably be POTUS personally requesting less ceremonial distance.”
El Chairman permanece completamente inmóvil.
A) “Not because they dislike institutions.”
Niega ligeramente con la cabeza.
A) “Because they want institutions to feel operational instead of aristocratic.”
El CMC deja escapar una pequeña risa seca.
CMC) “Well the Marine Corps is going to love that.”
Eso provoca algunas sonrisas contenidas.
Pero Alex todavía no ha terminado.
A) “And ties…”
Mira alrededor del Tank con total naturalidad.
A) “Honestly? Fifteen years max.”
Ahora sí varias personas reaccionan directamente.
CNO) “You’re telling me neckties are becoming a strategic casualty?”
Alex ya se ríe un poco.
A) “Sir, respectfully, most people under thirty already think ties are decorative suffering.”
Eso arranca varias risas reales alrededor de la mesa.
Incluso el Chairman sonríe esta vez.
A) “The whole aesthetic of governance is going to change.”
Su tono vuelve a estabilizarse.
A) “Less distance. Less ritualized status. More performance-based legitimacy signaling.”
Hale murmura desde el fondo:
Hart) “…She’s describing the cultural demilitarization of civilian executive optics.”
Alex señala inmediatamente hacia él.
A) “Exactly.”
Y luego mira otra vez al resto del Tank.
A) “You think this sounds superficial.”
Niega suavemente con la cabeza.

La sala vuelve a quedar en silencio.

Porque todos conocen la respuesta aproximada.

Simplemente inevitable.

Aclara inmediatamente.

Porque la frase es demasiado reconocible.

Hale deja escapar una pequeña risa cansada.

Y) “Mara got exiled from Andrews to California because of that asshole.”
El CSA cierra ligeramente los ojos, recordando perfectamente el expediente.
Y) “And I almost got killed because a colonel decided I was incapable of operating an M4.”
Alex gira inmediatamente la cabeza hacia ti.
A) “…What?”
Y continúas como si estuvieras describiendo un problema administrativo más.
Y) “According to his own post-action evaluation, he left me covering rear security while ordering JSOC elements forward.”
El CMC niega lentamente con absoluta incredulidad profesional.
Y) “Fortunately…”
Te encoges apenas de hombros.
Y) “…I did in fact know how to use my M4.”
El CSA interviene inmediatamente antes de que nadie más pueda hacerlo.
CSA) “Nacho…”
Niega con la cabeza.
CSA) “You dropped five tangos in three-point-four seconds.”
Alex literalmente se queda mirándote con la boca entreabierta.
A) “WHAT?”
Gira completamente hacia ti.
A) “Nacho!”
La mezcla entre horror y fascinación en su voz resulta casi cómica.
A) “That’s insane!”
Y entonces añade, completamente sincera:
A) “…Also you’re kind of awesome.”
Eso provoca varias pequeñas risas alrededor del Tank.
Pero Alex todavía no ha terminado.
A) “And that colonel was criminally irresponsible!”
El CNO resopla una risa seca.
CNO) “That’s actually one of the kinder descriptions I’ve heard of that incident.”
Alex sigue todavía procesando la información.
A) “Wait… so the guy who built USIC almost got killed because someone decided the cyber officer wasn’t a real soldier?”
Silencio breve.
Y entonces Hale responde antes que tú.
Hart) “…That is an alarmingly accurate summary of several decades of Pentagon cultural inertia, yes.”
La frase deja a la sala en un silencio incómodo y extremadamente consciente.
Porque conecta perfectamente con todo lo hablado durante la mañana.
Competencia ignorada.
Jerarquías mentales obsoletas.
Instituciones lentas para adaptarse.
Y tú finalmente apoyas ambas manos sobre la mesa y miras alrededor del Tank.

Alex se queda completamente quieta dos segundos.
Luego frunce el ceño con auténtica indignación generacional.
A) “…And he SURVIVED that?”
Varias personas en el Tank dejan escapar pequeñas exhalaciones inevitables.
A) “Oh come on.”
Hale termina respondiendo antes que tú, ya directamente divertido por la reacción.
Hart) “Well…”
Da un pequeño sorbo al café.
Hart) “…that was the incident where then-First Lieutenant Pindado relieved a full colonel for dereliction, endangering a unit and conduct unbecoming.”
Alex gira lentamente la cabeza hacia ti.

El CMC directamente suelta una pequeña risa seca.

Tú haces una pequeña mueca resignada.
Y) “To be fair, the situation was absurd.”

Ahora sí incluso el Chairman deja escapar una sonrisa breve.

Alex se queda unos segundos completamente callada.
Luego niega lentamente con una mezcla de fascinación y horror.
A) “…You know what the terrifying thing is?”
Y arqueas apenas una ceja.
A) “Every single person my age hearing this story would immediately side with you.”
Silencio breve.
A) “Like… instantly.”
El Chairman vuelve lentamente a ponerse serio.
Porque entiende perfectamente la implicación de esa frase.
Alex continúa.

Niega con la cabeza.

Sarah baja la vista un segundo.
Hale deja el café sobre la mesa.

Eso provoca algunas pequeñas risas alrededor del Tank.
Porque todos son plenamente conscientes de que el documento clasificado que saldrá de aquella sala parecerá escrito por alguien que mezcló continuidad constitucional, sociología generacional, filosofía política y terapia de grupo militar en un único briefing TS/SCI.
Y entonces el transcriptor, que lleva casi tres horas escribiendo sin detenerse, levanta finalmente la vista.
Completamente tranquilo.
Transcriptor) “I’ve been doing this for… many years, General.”
Hace una pequeña pausa mientras recoloca los dedos sobre el teclado.
Transcriptor) “Don’t worry.”
El CNO resopla una risa.
CNO) “That somehow worries me more.”
El transcriptor mantiene una serenidad absolutamente profesional.
Transcriptor) “Sir, I once transcribed a classified argument between two four-stars about whether a cyber operation technically counted as ‘invading a toaster.’”
Eso provoca ahora sí varias carcajadas reales alrededor de la mesa.
Incluso Hale se ríe abiertamente por primera vez en toda la mañana.

El ambiente termina de relajarse apenas unos grados mientras Alex mira alrededor del Tank con expresión todavía medio incrédula.
